U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires the manufacturers of ED (erectile dysfunction) drugs including Levitra, Cialis and Viagra to display the potential risk of sudden hearing loss on the labels more prominently. They should also include a guide for consumers telling them what to do if they suddenly experience hearing problems.
While such problems are often related to aging, patients taking these drugs don’t always consult their physician. However, FDA suggests that patients who take Levitra, Cialis or Viagra should stop taking the drugs and contact the doctor if they have a loss in usual hearing.
Although there haven’t been established any casual relationship between these drugs and hearing problems, there have been cases of sudden hearing losses in patients taking ED drugs sometimes accompanied by dizziness or/and ringing in the ears.
All the manufacturers agreed to introduce the required labeling changes to warn the patients of the possible side-effects.
